LTK Mermaid Pattern

Supplies:

*3.00 mm Hook

*Size 4 yarn, multi color, tan, black yarn for eyes, bulky (5) yarn for hair

*Tapestry Needle

*Scissors

*Polyfill Stuffing

*Stitch Marker

*Book or DVD as a template for hair 

Stitches:

*SC-single crochet

*DEC- decrease (I use invisible decrease but not in the pictures shown)

*SCBLO- single crochet back loop only

Notes:

*Dress, Body, Bikini, and Head are all one piece (your welcome)

*You will work from the dress up to the head, then fins then arms.

*Finish size is roughly 12-12.5 inches tall with hair on

*Stuff as you go

*You will work in continuous rounds never joining so your stitch marker will be handy

Body:

Start with your multicolor *Stuff as you go*

Row 1: 4 sc in magic ring (4 sts)

R2: SC 2 in each st around. (8 sts)

R3: SC in each st. (8 sts)

R4: (SC in next st, 2 SC in next st) 4 times (12 sts)

R5: SC in each st. (12 sts)

R6: (SC in next 3 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (15 sts)

R7: SC in each st. (15 sts)

R8: (SC in next 4 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (18 sts)

R9: SC in each st. (18 sts)

R10: (SC in next 5 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (21 sts)

R11: SC in each st. (21 sts)

R12: (SC in next 6 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (24 sts)

R13: SC in each st (24 sts)

R14: (SC in next 7 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (27 sts)

R15: SC in each st (27 sts)

R16: (SC in next 8 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (30 sts)

R17: (SC in next 9 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (33 sts)

R18: (SC in next 10 sts, 2 SC in next st) 3 times (36 sts)

R19-24: SC in each st (36 sts)

R25: SC in next 35 sts, change to skin color in 36th st (36 sts)

*Make sure you are stuffing as you go. I don’t like to make my body super stuffed and completely round. I like to shape her so her front and back and a little flat.*

Upper Body:

You should have changed to your skin color

R26: SCBLO in each st (36 sts)

R27-28: SC in each st (36 sts)

R29: (SC in next 10 sts, DEC) 3 times (33 sts)

R30-31: SC in each st (33 sts) *Switching to bra color in last st on row 31*

R32: (SC in next 9 sts, DEC) 3 times (30 sts)

R33: SC in each st (30 sts) * Switching back to skin color in last st*

R34: (SC in next 3 sts, DEC) 6 times (24 sts)

R35: (SC in next 4 sts, DEC) 4 times (20 sts)

R36: (SC in next 8 sts, DEC) 2 times (18 sts)

R37-38: SC in each st. (18 sts)

Head:

Using same skin color yarn *Continue to stuff as you go*

R39: (SC in next 2 sts, 2 SC in next st) (24 sts)

R40: (SC in next 3 sts, 2 SC in next st) (30 sts)

R41: (SC in next 4 sts, 2 SC in next st) (36 sts)

R42: (SC in next 5 sts, 2 SC in next st) (42 sts)

R43: (SC in next 6 sts, 2 SC in next st) (48 sts)

R44-47: SC in each st (48 sts)

R48: (SC in next 6 sts, DEC) (42sts)

R49: (SC in next 5 sts, DEC) (36 sts)

R50: (SC in next 4 sts, DEC) (30 sts)

*I go ahead and do my eyes with black yarn. Make sure before you place them, that the backside is where you can see where you changed colors. That way you front is nice and pretty.  I place the yarn at the top of R46. I do 4 sts apart between the eyes. It’s like you are making a check with the eye, then lines for your eye lashes. Once I like how my eyes are made, I tie to secure inside the head twice, then trim the ends. With skin color yarn, make nose between in R44/45. Refer to picture below*

R51: (SC in next 3 sts, DEC) (24 sts)

R52: (SC in next 2 sts, DEC) (18 sts)

*Finish stuffing head* DON’T FORGET TO MAKE NOSE BEFORE CLOSING HEAD!

R53: (SC in next st, DEC) (12 sts)

R54: DEC around (6 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail to close the top of the head. I just weave in ends in and out of the hole and pull tight to close then weave in end.

Fin: (Make 2 DUH)

Using multicolor yarn

R1: Ch 7, SC in 2nd ch from hook and in each st TURN(6 sts)

R2: Ch 1, (DO NOT COUNT AS A SC) SC in first st (BOTH LOOPS), SCBLO in each st across, 2 SC in last st (BOTH LOOPS) TURN (7sts)

R3: Ch 1, 2 SC in first st (BOTH LOOPS), SCBLO in each st across, SC in last st (BOTH LOOPS) TURN (8sts)

R4: Ch 1, SC in first st (BOTH LOOPS), SCBLO in each st across, 2 SC in last st (BOTH LOOPS) TURN (9 sts)

R5: Ch 1, 2 SC in first st (BOTH LOOPS), SCBLO in each st across, SC in last st (BOTH LOOPS) TURN (10 sts)

R6: Ch 1, SC in first st (BOTH LOOPS), SCBLO in each st across, 2 SC in last st (BOTH LOOPS) TURN (11 STS)

R7: Ch 1, 2 SC in first st (BOTH LOOPS), SCBLO in each st across, SC in last st (BOTH LOOPS) (12 sts) 

Fasten off, Leaving a long tail and make another one the exact same way

Sew smaller ends together

Insert yarn thru the top part and pull so fin tightens up

Arms: (Make 2)

R1: SC 6 in magic circle (6sts)

R2-12: SC in each st (6sts)

*I didn’t stuff the arms*

Now SC through both layers across the top of the arm to close it. (3 SC)

Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Then position the arms onto the body, 1 row above the bra color and sew the arms to the sides of the body.

Cut a string of multicolor yarn and fold it together, then insert the yarn under the middle of the bra, placing above the shoulders and weave in.

Hair:

I started to rows above the eyes and made her hair line straight then I curved it off to the sides.
